Session One: Mercy and Forgiveness

Bismillah
Alhamdulillah, I’ve been blessed to take the Arabic 201 class with Bayyinah Institute for the second time and mashaAllah br Nouman has this sunnah of taking 10 minutes at the end of each session to share a literary gem of the Qur’an.
InshaAllah I will be posting all nine that he will share with us; one [...]

Ni'mah - Br Nouman Khan

Bismillah walhamdulillah
I happened to ask br Nouman (may Allah preserve him, Ameen) a question on Qur’anic vocabulary, and he gave me this awesome gem as an example to show that Qur’anic vocab is all about quality, not necessarily quantity:
Vocabulary in the Qur’an is an intricately connected web of terms that, if not given their [...]

Alhamdulillah we covered: tahmeed, tasbeeh and takbeer. InshaAllah (for now) the last dhikr we will dissect is tabaarak: Blessed is He, He is Greatly Blessed. This word tabaarak is only used for Allah ta’ala.

What is Takbeer?

Bismillah.
To continue our meanings of the dhikr posts, we’ll analyze Takbeer which means to say: Allahu Akbar.
Allah ta’ala says in Suratul Israa ayah 111:
وَكَبِّرْهُ تَكْبِيرًا
“and glorify Him with a great glorification”.
Both of these words in the ayah are from kaaf-ba-ra (ك-ب-ر) or kabar, which means to be great. كَبِّرْهُ Kabirhu means: Make Him great, declare [...]

What is Tasbeeh?

Bismillah.
Alhamdulillah, we now know what hamd is, let’s move on to tasbeeh!
SubhanAllah, He is Absolutely Flawless. The utter beauty, completeness, total negation, absolute perfection and exaltation that is contained in saying those two words completely boggles my mind and I know I cannot do any justice to it. My intention is to give a tiny [...]
