Chance at a Second Life

Bismillah

Ibn Al-Qayyim, rahimahullah, wrote concerning a hadeeth “This Hadeeth us one of the strongest proofs of the lofty status of knowledge and of the greatness of its fruits. The reward of knowledge continues to accrue for a man even after he dies, so long as people continue to benefit from the knowledge he imparted. Therefore, even after such a man dies, it is as if he continues to be alive. In fact, considering that others’ deeds come to an end when they die, it is as if he is being given a second life.”

[The hadeeth he was referring to is: "When a person dies his deeds are cut off from him except from three: perpetual charity; knowledge that continues to benefit; and a righteous son who supplicates for him" (Muslim #1631)]

Assalamualykum sr.Amatullah,

When I heard my ustadah [teacher] explained this hadith it really struck me that even the righteous children will die one day but the ilm you passed on will be there till the day of judgement. It is so important to learn , to practice then to pass on..Mashaallah..Jazakillahu khairaa my dear ukhthi.

I do have a doubt regarding a hadith I heard related to this “When you are a student of ilm and then when you die in this state ,then the angels will complete it “The part “complete it”do the angels teach us in our grave? I don`t even have a reference to this hadith. If you know more about this I would be glad to know in detail.I am sorry if I am giving you much trouble.

salaam.

In literature, we were taught that literature may be even more real than us because we pass away, but the literature lives on, and the characters live on forever.

While that may not exactly be true, even the non-Muslims understand the importance of leaving behind knowledge…

wa alaykum salam wa rahmatullah UmmFatima,

wa iyyaki.

Allah knows best ukhti, I have not heard of that hadeeth you mentioned. Did you ustadh say where it was narrated? inshaAllah I can try searching for it, however it is a bit difficult without the Arabic. I will do my best bi’ithnillah.

It is never too much trouble :) If I am able to help through my limited knowledge, I am more than happy to help you or anyone else. Baarak Allahu feeki.
