Believers: Have Taqwa and Succeed

Bismillah

Allah ta’ala says in surah Anfal,

O you who believe! If you obey and fear Allah, He will grant you a criterion to judge between right and wrong, and will expiate for you your sins, and forgive you; and Allah is the Owner of the Great Bounty. (8:29)

Allah ta’ala is commanding the believers to have taqwa in this ayah. Taqwa is the best provision for the Believer.

Imam Sa’di rahimahullah explains this ayah in his tafseer:

The essence of happiness and the sign of success is in the slave’s taqwa of his Rabb. Allah has in fact ordained for having taqwa many good things from this life. So remember that for the one who has taqwa of Allah, He will select for him four things; each one of them is better than this life and all that is in it.

Firstly: Al-Furqan: it is the knowledge and guidance that one can differentiate between guidance and misguidance, the truth and the falsehood, the permissible and impermissible, and the people of happiness from the people of evil.

Secondly and thirdly: removal of the wrongdoings (takfeer as-sayyi’aat) and the forgiveness of the sins (maghfirah adh-dhunoob). Each one of these two [meanings] enter with the other; removal of the wrongdoings from the smaller sins, and forgiveness of the sins by remitting the major sins.

Fourthly: The great recompense and the abundant reward for the one who has taqwa of Him and prefers His Pleasure over the desires of his soul, “ وَاللَّهُ ذُو الْفَضْلِ الْعَظِيمِ” “And Allah is the Owner of Great Bounty.”
