The Best Thing to Busy Oneself With

Bismillah

عن أبي سعيد رضي الله عنه قال:  قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم : يقول الرب عز و جل: من شغله القرآن عن ذكري و مسألتي أعطيته أفضل ما أعطي السائلين

From Abu Sa’eed al Khudri radi Allahu anhu who said: The Messenger of Allah sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam said: The Lord azza wa jal says: Whoever is busied with the Qur’an from remembrances (dhikr) and from supplicating to Me, then surely I will give him better tahn that which I give those who ask Me [and do not busy themselves with the Qur'an].”

Narrated by Al-Tirmidhi and Musannaf AbdurRazzaaq.

Shaykh Ahmad abul-Aynayn brings different routes of narrations and different statements of many scholars of hadeeth, and then says:

‘and what is apparaent to me ist hat the hadeeth by its different chains, is hasan (good) - InshaAllah. And also al-haafidh has graded it hasan as narrated from him by ibn ‘iraaq in tanzeeh ush-sharee’ah: 2/323. and Allah knows best.’

Shaykh Mubarakfuri rahimahullah says:

Its meaning is: the one who is busied with the recitation [and study] of the Qur’an and does not have time for dhikr and duaa, then Allah will bestow on him, whatever He needs and whatever He wants: in a better and more virtuous way than He will give those who supplicate for their needs [and do not recite the Qur'an].”

Reference: 40 ahadeeth on the excellence of the Qur’an and the companion of the Qur’an.

Shaykh Yasir Qadhi whose graduation paper from the College of Hadeeth at the University of Madinah was a detailed analysis of this hadeeth said: “My conclusion was that the hadeeth is hassan li-ghayrihi, as its been narrated by numerous chains, all of them weak or slightly weak, but put together strengthen one another.”

and Allah azza wa jal knows best.
