Reclining in the Dunya vs Reclining in the Aakhirah
Bismillah
While learning about the attributes of the Prophet sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam, we came upon a narration stating:
آكل كما يأكل العبد ، وأجلس كما يجلس العبد
I eat as a slave eats, and I sit as a slave sits.
The Prophet sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam did not eat in a reclining position (mutaki’an), while the kings and leaders of the past would recline upon couches, being fed by their servants. The Prophet sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam, although he is the Leader of the children of Adam did not eat or sit in this position.
Allah ta’ala says that the companions of Jannah will be,
“reclining therein upon raised couches.” (18:31)
The root of mutaki’een gives the meaning of reclining back on something, such as a cushion. It is complete relaxation and comfort for those who abstained it in the dunya.

Jazakumallahu khairaa.I just have a question.The taqwa, muttaqin , ittaqu, waqeena all have the same root word wow,Qaf,Ya.How can we explain the relaxation in this ayah وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّار ? While reading about taqwa I read that the root meaning of Taqwa is to avoid what one dislikes.I am confused .I am just a beginner, so kindly bear with me.Jazakumallahu khairaa ..Jazakumallahu khairaa.

The root of Mutak’i (to recline) is: wow kaaf hamza و ك ء, so it is a different word that Mutaqqi. I apologize, I should have spelled it and wrote the root word in the post. InshaAllah I will add now. May Allah increase you in beneficial knowledge, Ameen.
