may Allah ta’ala make us among the companions of the Qur’an, ameen.

I have a huge love for Egyptian reciters and I really enjoy their style of recitation. Their style may be a bit slow or not “rhythm-y” enough for some people, but subhanAllah the Qur’an is so beautiful when recited in a slow and measured tone, and not to mention most of these reciters have awesome tajweed mashaAllah. Yasir Qadhi says the Egyptian style is “characterized by a very strong emphasis on the pronunciation of every letter. Typically very slow, crystal clear. Has its unique fluctuations.” The top qaari has to be Shaykh Husary rahimahullah. The most famous Egyptian reciter’s biographies can be found here.

The only thing that takes away from these amazing recitations are some “shouts” from the audience in between the ayaat. I don’t understand where this practice came from, as Allah ta’ala tells us:

وَإِذَا قُرِئَ الْقُرْآنُ فَاسْتَمِعُوا لَهُ وَأَنْصِتُوا لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ

“So, when the Quran is recited, listen attentively to it, and be silent that you may receive mercy” (7:204)
